Simple Things Make All the Difference

So today I had to trek to the Social Security Office...a task I've been dreading, especially with all the little kids with me. Down here in Provo it's a small little building and the inside is pretty cramped with numerous people and chairs.  Today I finally had to force myself to go so I headed there with Kyndi, the Littles and Jersi Pie...
As we were walking along the sidewalk toward the door, there was some punk kid (hair in a mohawk, half was bleach-blond and half black) sitting on the curb smoking with a girl... He saw us and jumped right up "Let me help you with the door" and he did, and then he said "Marie, will you hurry and grab that next door for her?"  WOW. I was so impressed - his mother must've taught him well.
Next we were sitting in the overly-cramped waiting area for a good half hour.  After about 20 minutes my kids started getting overly bored and a wee bit whiney. Okay truth: Jersi was crying, Dayton was being an ornery two year old, Kyndi was complaining asking how soon we could leave and Oaks kept jumping around crashing into people, laying on the floor etc.  I kept my composure and kept talking to all of them trying to maintain some kind of decorum... Soon a lady stood from her seat and came over to us, sat down next to Oaklee and said to her, "I know a game we can play with our hands, wanna try?"  WOW.  She saw me as a mother in distress and came to the rescue. She ended up helping immensely as she had all three kids mesmerized and I was able to attend to Jersi.
It was finally our turn and somehow we were lucky enough to be called into the office  where there was space to move, and seats, rather than standing at the one of the customer service windows in a cramped space with all my kiddos.  WOW. Don't know how we lucked out. It's not that they were just taking pity on us either, we got a number from a machine as we entered and our number just happened to be called at the right time. That was a stress saver for me for sure.
The paperwork and all was painless - the worker-guy gave each kid a sucker which kept them entertained for the 5 minutes he took to process my paperwork through. And then he escorted us to the side employee door (because he knew it was closer to the parking lot) and then held the door for us. WOW.  Those workers are probably overwhelmed with busy-ness. One look at the waiting area will tell you that. And this man took time out of his day to not only allow us to exit out a more convenient door, but also took the time to walk there with us just to hold it open. I was impressed. Those people today did something very minor that made a huge impact on my day.

Wow Stef, it is great to know that there are still good people out there!! And it has made me realize that maybe I shouldn't judge people by their looks, just because they look different(funny colored mowhawks)doesnt mean they arent good people! Thanks for sharing, just reading it made a difference in my day!

That is awesome to know that there are still people out there that are so selfless and think of other people first.
