Smash That Grape!

Morrissa and her friends had to design a contraption using simple machines that in the end could smash a grape.  They had to use inclined planes - levers - pulley's- wheel & axles - and other stuff too - they also had to include all different kinds of energy (kinetic, elastic, etc...)
Morrissa is in pink here...
Yes, that is a hammer thing hanging from my kitchen ceiling... Morrissa cuts the string, dropping the hammer which pulls the yarn ball out of the bed of the truck, sending it down the inclined plane into some books set up as dominoes, knocking one book down another inclined plane, starting off the big long line of domino-books...

Kamron was a huge help for the girls - I think he enjoyed this project.

(You can't see it, but in the above picture, at the end of the trail of books stands a rubber mallet. The last book tips the mallet over and crushes the grapes below it.)

It took all stinkin day to get it to finally work out as planned.  It was a fantastic design - but there was always one aspect of the darn thing that decided not to cooperate - each time a different part chose to be difficult.
It was fun to watch them, and not so bad helping them set up the books over and over and over.  Finally 5 or so hours later, this was their result:

I think Dayton loved watching them all fall too.
