Wax Museum

The day after Tate's Hershey Track, we got to attend his Wax Museum.  What is a Wax Museum you ask?  Well..  his school does an interestingly fun idea.  5th graders do state reports, right? Well, they took it one step further.  In addition to their state reports they also had to find a famous person from their state and do a report on them.  The report on the famous person had to be detailed enough to tell the person's life story, but simple enough to memorize in monologue format.
So... the was museum is essentially a bunch of 5th graders standing around the gym with their posters showing all the work they did for their state report, and then the 5th grader them self is standing/sitting/kneeling in front of there poster as a "wax figure" of the famous person they researched.  As you walk through the gym you can push a picture of a button that brings the was figure to life telling you all the details of their existence. I think it's a cute idea and all the students seemed to thoroughly enjoy it!

Tate's state was Colorado (he was thrilled to tell Jonathan this because that is where Jonathan and his family currently live.)  And his famous person was Tim Allen (I know, right?) Apparently Colorado doesn't offer many great choices for famous people...
Prior to the Wax museum presentation, the 5th graders did a quick patriotic program and sang us some good patriotic songs.  I got a short video of Tate performing one of my favorites before my battery died.
Here he is as Tim Allen.  (In hindsight we were frustrated with ourselves for not putting either a tool belt on him (Tim the Tool Man Taylor) or putting Dayton's Buzz Lightyear hat on him (he is the voice of Buzz afterall).  Tate did an excellent job with his memorized dialogue.  He can tell you all sorts of stuff about the guy! (Did you know that prior to his fame, he was arrested and served time for selling drugs? True story!)
A few pictures from the program and all the fun costumes kids were wearing as their wax characters...

I actually did know about his drug issues. And dad fancies himself Tim Allen so Tate better do his monologue for him.
